Tool 3

Positioning Hypothesis Kit

Use record evidence to test possible professional directions, roles, audiences, or positioning hypotheses.

When to use this

Use when you are asking, “What do I look like to the market?” or “What kinds of roles might my Record support?”

How it connects to the Builder

Use this toolkit alongside the Patterns and Record Readout in the Record Builder.

Quick guide

  1. Start with confirmed patterns from your Record.
  2. Identify possible role directions.
  3. Mark each direction as strong, adjacent, stretch, or unsupported.
  4. Connect each direction to actual episodes, evidence, and claims.
  5. Do not claim a direction only because it sounds appealing.
  6. Identify what evidence would strengthen the hypothesis.
